Cable Knit and Neutrals

October is upon us and it is officially autumnal weather. I have been enjoying the gorgeous, crisp mornings and moody skies at night, and today it has blown a hoolie with Storm Babet descending on the North East. Perfect weather for a big, cosy jumper.

One of the benefits of having a wonderful husband is stealing his clothes and I am terribly guilty of ‘borrowing’ his jumpers, especially a specific cable knit. And so this year I decided it might be time to invest in a cable knit of my own. I had an idea in mind of what I was looking for and found one that was just right at Marks and Spencer.

A cable knit is such a classic piece. It can change the dynamic of a look, adding a casual elegance,so in contrast to it’s humble beginnings as a fisherman’s garment. A great part of the appeal for me is how practical they are and the indication of quality. Of course, they are also very beautiful, the texture immediately has me dreaming of cosy nights in, candles burning, wind whistling outside.

I will be experimenting with how to wear this jumper over the season. I’m imagining preppy looks with a crisp cotton shirt, or layering over a silk dress for a dressed down – dressed up look. For the time being, I’ve been trying it on with neutrals for a timeless, elegant style.
